Life Alert® GPS Technology is Important, but So Is Your Privacy

Medical alert systems with GPS technology are widely available. Both Alert1 and Life Alert® products use GPS to help find you in the case of an emergency. This can be an important safety tool. Sometimes, an accident will occur, and you might not know where you are. At other times, an accident may render you unable to speak or remember your location.

In both situations, GPS technology can be an invaluable tool.

Alert1 and Life Alert® GPS features are similar. Using the same technology found in car navigation systems, driving apps, and smartphones, select medical alert systems use satellites to pinpoint your exact location.

But while the ways in which Alert1 and Life Alert® GPS technology are very similar, Alert1 is transparent in how your data stored and used. Life Alert® does not include information about location data on their website. This might raise a few eyebrows amongst our privacy-minded members. By contrast, Alert1 is very transparent about your location data: we will never share it with a third party. That information is used only to help you in an emergency– and for nothing else. You are not tracked. In addition, Alert1 is HIPAA compliant so you know any sensitive data you share with us is safe.

What Does Alert1 Do with GPS Information?

We know that many of our members are concerned about personal privacy. These days, who wouldn’t be? Smart phones, smart watches, cars, and desktop computers broadcast personal data and information to whoever wants it. If you’re using a medical alert system with GPS technology, you want to ensure that information will never be used outside of the emergency event. This is exactly what Alert1 offers.

When your medical alert system is triggered, we will use its GPS features to pinpoint your location and, if necessary, send that information to emergency services. We don’t do anything else with that information. We don’t store it or provide GPS technology data to third parties.

We’re not sure about the Life Alert® GPS policy, as it is not listed on their website. However, this lack of information might cause those concerned about data privacy to hesitate. If you value transparency, discretion, and accessible medical alert options, Alert1 is the company for you.

Choosing an Alert1 Medical Alert Device

Life Alert® arguably has more name recognition in the industry than Alert1. However, this means we will never be able to rest on our name alone. This, in turn, drives us to keep innovating, providing more user-friendly products, and both researching and implementing the services our members need. With us, you can rest assured that we will continue making a name for ourselves through low-cost medical alert options, personalized payment plans, and the option for no long-term contracts.

We know that GPS services are now an essential part of senior safety. Life Alert® GPS is a viable option, but with Alert1, you’ll know exactly how your location data is handled. For some, this might be the tipping point in making the decision. For others, it might be that our prices are consistently lower than Life Alert’s®. No matter the reason, be sure to make the choice that is best for your lifestyle.
