Alert1 Fights to End Hunger with Meals on Wheels
Medical alert company partners with Meals on Wheels.
Williamsport, PA Alert1 announced today that during the months of November and December, the team donated a portion of proceeds and provided hundreds of meals in collaboration with the Success Through Engagement & Partnership (STEP) Office of Aging and Meals on Wheels in Williamsport.
STEP engages individuals, families and communities in strategies for their own social and economic success via partnerships with the community. The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest national organization serving the needs of senior hunger and delivers over a million meals per day to seniors in need.
One in six seniors is threatened by hunger. In 2011 alone, 8.8 million seniors faced the threat of hunger. With over 5,000 Senior Nutrition Programs nationwide, Meals on Wheels donates 1 million meals to seniors each day. “We are proud to help end senior hunger in America,” said Jeremy Furman, General Manager. “With our support of STEP and Meals on Wheels, we are starting with our own backyard.”
In addition to providing for the safety and independence of retired people, Alert1 is committed to combating other issues seniors face.
“At Alert1, we strive to provide the best service not only to our Members but also to the wider community,” Furman said. “Meals on Wheels tackles a serious issue that affects many Americans and we are honored to do our part in assuring the welfare of the Greatest Generation.”
