Old Fashioned Apple Crisp Makes a Yummy Fall Treat

With just 4 simple steps and 9 ingredients you likely already have in your cupboard, you can make this classic Fall dessert. This delicious crisp is like serving up a bit of Autumn on a plate!

Ingredients

1.     6 golden delicious apples, peeled and chopped (other varieties can be used)

2.     2 Tablespoons granulated sugar

3.     1 ¾ teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided

4.     1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice

5.     1 cup light brown sugar

6.     ¾ cup old fashioned oats

7.     ¾ cup all-purpose flour

8.     ½ cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes

9.     Pinch of salt

Instructions

1.     Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.  Butter an 8” × 8” baking dish, or spray with non-stick cooking spray.  Set aside.

2.     In a mixing bowl, add chopped apples, granulated sugar, ¾ teaspoon of the cinnamon and lemon juice.  Stir to combine, then pour into prepared baking dish.

3.     In a separate mixing bowl, add the brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, salt, and diced cold butter.  Use a pastry cutter or a large fork to cut the butter into the oat mixture, using a slight downward twisting motion, until mixture resembled pea-sized crumbs.  (Alternatively, you can use your hands to cut the butter into the mixture.)

4.     Spread the topping over the apples in the baking dish, and gently pat to even it out.  Bake 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.

Serve warm. Can be topped with vanilla ice cream and/or caramel sauce, if desired.

Enjoy and happy Autumn from Alert1!
