With Halloween right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about costumes! Your golden years should be about having fun and enjoying yourself. Whether you are handing out candy or trying to win a costume contest, Halloween is your night to be whomever you want. You may be  a senior, but you’re never too old for Halloween!

Take a look at some of these creative senior adult costumes listed below. These DIY costumes are cheap and easy to make. Whether you are going solo, or need a couple costume idea, Alert1 has you covered. 

Charlie Chaplin

No doubt you have experienced the brilliance of Chaplin’s acting and directing while having some good laughs. Charlie Chaplin, one of the most well-known actors of the early 20th century is also a great senior Halloween costume.  This costume is not only simple to set up, but there are advantages to being the lovable vagabond.

All you need is:

  • Baggy pants
  • Tattered blazer
  • Dress shirt and tie
  • The iconic mustache
  • A bowler hat
  • A cane (bamboo if you can find one)

Since you’re a silent movie character, you won’t be the one responsible for small talk. Embody the spirit of Chaplin to pull of the role of the slapstick jokester all night. 

Heisenberg (aka Walter White)

This Breaking Bad costume is especially great for those who are already bald! Ladies don’t worry about shaving your full head of hair; a bald cap will work just fine. Gentlemen, start growing out your mustaches and goatees now to complete your look.

As Heisenberg, all you need is:

  • A classic Pork Pie hat
  • Wrap-around dark sunglasses or clear aviators
  • A zip up jacket with a collared shirt underneath.

To be Walt when he is “cooking,” all you need is:

  • A hazmat suit

All you need to become this American icon are these supplies:

The Queen of England

Queen Elizabeth II always looks timeless in a fashionable hat and coat dress. As a senior herself, this look is perfect for a senior Halloween party. 

This look can be easily achieved with these items:

  • An extravagant hat or a  crown
  • Coat dress
  • A broach
  • Some pearls
  • A small handbag

This outfit is easy to pull off. You may have these clothes in your closet already. If not, you can find them at your local thrift store. Dress up an old hat and give it regal style even the Queen would be happy to wear. Now is your chance to be royalty for a night.   

Hulk Hogan

This professional wrestler makes a great senior Halloween costume with items that you can easily find. Strut your stuff on Halloween night and remember to stay in character.

Hulk it up with:

  • A Hulkamania cutoff t-shirt
  • Bandana
  • Horseshoe mustache
  • Yellow or red rimmed sunglasses
  • White tape or yellow wristbands
  • Red spandex pants and yellow boots

Use phrases like "Well ya know something, brother..." "Whatcha gonna do..." and calling people "Hulkamaniacs." Advise people to train, say their prayers, and take their vitamins. Make sure you strike the Hulkster's signature poses for photos!

Carry around a bucket of chicken and you will be the life of the party. Just be sure to have a cluckin’ good time.

For Mario’s costume:

  • Blue overalls
  • Red long-sleeve shirt
  • Fake (or real) black mustache
  • White gloves
  • Yellow felt for buttons on overalls
  • Red hat

For Peach’s costume

  • A long pink dress (an old prom dress would work well)
  • A crown
  • Long white gloves

Make this a group costume and add Luigi and Toad to the gang. Carry around some balloons to recreate a Mario Cart race as you try to pop each other’s balloons!
