Tips on Taking Medication Safely
Sometimes, a simple checklist can bring peace of mind. The COMPLIANCE list below can remind you how to take medication safely. Keep it handy!
- C — Call your doctor or pharmacist or if you have any concerns about any of your medications.
- O — Order your medication refills well in advance – don’t wait until the weekend or your last dose.
- M — Make your medication regimen fit your lifestyle, not the other way around. Associate taking your medication with something you do regularly each day, such as brushing your teeth or sitting down to meals.
- P — Plan the timing of your medication doses using a pill organizer or daily planner.
- L — Learn to never leave home without an up-to-date medication list.
- I — Inform your doctor or pharmacist of any issues or concerns you have regarding side effects, etc.
- A — Ask ask, ask! Before you stop, change, or even crush a medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist about it.
- N — Never stop a medication abruptly. Always consult with your doctor or pharmacist first.
- C — Clarify with your doctor or pharmacist which over-the-counter (non-prescription) or herbal medications or supplements are safe to take with your prescription medications.
- E — Explanations from your doctor about your medications are your right. So make sure to ask any questions you have and write down the answers.

My parents have not yet had to use your services but every month my Dad
calls in to check that all is working properly. He always has someone answer
immediately and politely. The person at the other end always ask how your
wife is doing. They are always very polite and courteous. Thanks for being
there for them.
